Who doesn't like crappie fishing? The game has changed over the years with the advancement of technology. Going out and sitting on top of brush piles hoping that something bites are over. At least in my boat. You can thank Garmin for that. Livescope is where it's at now. Kids call it video game fishing.
Livescope is best described as forward looking radar. You actual see the fish in front of you in real time. You can put your bait right in their faces. Keep it there until they strike or swim away. It's fascinating to watch. You also can pick out the big ones or just go search for them suspended out in the middle of nowhere. |

Thanks to Livescope we can now target some really, really big trophy sized crappie. My biggest to date is 3.25lbs on the right. She went on the wall, thats the only reason I kept her. Most crappie guides now practice catch and release on anything over 2lbs. If not, we will deplete our big fish out, especially on the smaller lakes where they are easier to hunt down.
The best lakes for large crappie requires some travel time and we won't catch numbers. Just big fish. I only like to take two people on trophy trips. The best time is Oct - Feb. |
