Oologah Lake is ate up with blue catfish. So is Grand Lake and Keystone and Kaw. Pretty much any Oklahoma reservoir have big blue's in them. Since I live on Lake Oologah, this is where I target the big blue's.
The winter months is a really good time of year to catch trophy sized blues, however they can still be caught through the year. They move and transition guide a bit. Sometimes we have to try multiple sets to locate them.

We call the fish under 30in long "Box Fish" thats because they go into the live well. Oklahoma's limit is 15 a day and only one can be over 30in long.
Our reservoirs also has flathead and channel catfish. Flathead's like live bait and channel's will eat anything. We usually release both of those kind of fish. Blue's are much better eating. |
Anymore I release all the big one's. If everyone kept all the big one's, especially guides like me, you could deplete the lake from the trophy's. The big fish are old and wise. They know how to protect the nests and I think its sound practice to release them to fight another day. I've done my share of keeping the big ones but those days are over.
